Not a Do or Die affair
JAMB- not a DO or DIE
The joint admission and matriculation board(JAMB) is one of the examination we can not just easily avoid in Nigeria. As a secondary school student aspiring to further his or her education through the tertiary institution you must write this exam and your performance will determine if you will be admitted or not into the tertiary institution.
Every year, over 600,000 students apply for JAMB. Your application does not automatically qualify you for ADMISSION as there are other factors attached to the APPLICATION for the exam.
We have students who wrote the exam once, pass and they were admitted instantly. We also have students who have written the exam more than once maybe twice or even more than, pass the required CUTOFF mark and yet were not admitted either into the university or polytechnic as people do say that in Nigeria it is MAN KNOW MAN, i think this is also applicable to JAMB and admission process except with divine intervention. Also, we Have students who have written this same exam several times and yet find it difficult to score the required CUTOFF mark by JAMB and the tertiary institution of their choice.
In Nigeria, the most recognised tertiary institution is the university followed by the polytechnic. Even though we have other institutions such as THE TEACHER TRAINING COLLEGE, BUSINESS SCHOOLS, COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, etc. With all these available institutions, students are mostly interested in the UNIVERSITY and then resorting to the POLYTECHNIC as the last option or only alternative. But the fact now is that some of these institutions we look down on or detest especially the POLYTECHNIC and COLLEGE OF EDUCATION are well equipped than most UNIVERSITIES. Students from these institutions have better experience than most UNIVERSITY graduates.
Now to the JAMBITES, “PLEASE DO NOT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET”. Please and please DIVERSIFY your interest. While applying for JAMB, there are provisions for university, polytechnic and other institutions. Make sure you try every available options. Do not insist on UNIVERSITY, you never can tell maybe, just maybe you can acquire better knowledge and improve on your career and destiny through the other tertiary institutions.
Moreso, do not only invest in education. Do not take JAMB or TERTIARY INSTITUTION as a DO or DIE AFFAIR. Not every successful man or woman are DEGREE holders or GRADUATE (go and ask WIZKID, MERCY JOHNSON, etc). Work on your talent, build yourself and make sure you work on your self. Be good at SOMETHING that can earn you a better tomorrow not only FORMAL EDUCATION.
As Nigeria is not only about CERTIFICATE but also SABIFICATE.
(Please pass this message to any student you know that will be writing JAMB 2017)
