```A SELFLESS CALL``` ```POLITICS: A Dirty game``` _“politics is a dirty game”- this is the political perspective of almost if not all Nigerians._ _Politics in Nigeria is “dirty” because most of the good and qualified citizens are not interested in the political affairs of the country. Thereby leaving us in the detriment of the unqualified and few good and politically inclined citizens._ _We have leadership and political affairs in most of the institutions in the country including the Educational institution. In the university, the political affairs is mostly dominated by the male fork not because of gender inequality but because the female counterpart have little or no interest at all._ _Ogundipe Leslie (1987), suggested harmonization and democratisation of roles through which men and women can participate equitably in the urgent mission of social transformation and reconstruction. In other words, women should cooperate with the man to participate equally in order to achieve...
WAS THE CIVIL WAR SENSIBLE? Christian Okwori After reading about nine different books by various biased and neutral authors and old newspaper compendiums on the Nigerian - Biafra Civil War of 1967 to 1970, I can safely conclude that the war was due more to youthful egos between Ojukwu of just 36years of age and Gown of just 31years of age who were in a hurry to practicalize their military trainings . The War Lords mortgaged the lives and futures of millions in the alter of their ego and youthful exuberance. Had the Warlords been in their fifties or sixties I swear there wouldn't have been a war. When I was in the North people talk about the easterners and you think Igbos are all shades of evil and treachery. When I was in the east you hear people talk about hausa/fulani and you wonder if they are humans or monkeys while you imagine Yorubas are one dirty and traitorous people who love leaking oil. Same in the deep west you hear of Igbos as if they are al...
*DIVIDEND OF DEMOCRACY AS A MIRAGE IN NIGERIA SOCIO-POLITICAL MILIEU* *INTRODUCTION* By May 2019, Nigeria’s nascent democracy should have been two decades. Thus, the thrust of this article is an in depth analysis on how dividends of democracy is a mirage in Nigeria socio-political milieu. This article however, takes a cursory look at the daunting challenges ahead and infers that unless the government increases expenditure and truncate the current brazen corruption, the hope of democratic consolidation may eventually be a mirage. DEFINITION OF TERMS • Democracy : This is a form of government whereby the citizens are eligible to choose their representative either directly or indirectly elected by themselves. • Dividend : This refers to a reward, cash, profit or otherwise, distributed to people from an organisation. • Milieu : This is a social environment that people live. • Mirage : This is from Latin word “MIRARI” means “TO LOOK AT, T...
AFTER THE UNIVERSITY WHAT NEXT? Education is the foundation of success. Just as scholastic skills are vitally important, donate financial skills and communication skills....... Robert T. Kiyosaki "Study hard and get good grades and you will find a high paying job with great benefits" most parents used to say or still say. Most of our parents goals is to provide us with good Education so that we would have the greatest chance for success in life. The world today is changing but the Education is not changing with it. We spend years in an antiquated Educational system, studying subjects we will never use. For instance: An engineering student who has been looking for 'X' from 100 level down to 500 level. Or a Sociology student studying and cramming the year each theory was propounded by different scholars. Scholars like Auguste Comte, Emile Durkheim, Talcott Parsons, etc. Or a Political science...
BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE, UGLY ON THE INSIDE All through our lives we are been taught HYGIENE both personal hygiene and environmental hygiene in our formal and informal Educational sector. Through formal education, we were taught in the nursery school, primary school, secondary school, mass media etc. about the importance of hygiene. Informally, we learn from our elders, parents and even through the government who imposes sanitation at least once a month in every state. Surprisingly most of us are not learning. We know the importances of hygiene but yet we are not practising it. Here, I want to focus on our personal hygiene because I believe that if you are personally clean then your environment will be clean. Personal hygiene is very important for both sex but more important for the female fork. So please permit to focus on the female forks. In Africa and probably the world in general, women are very strong and powerful. The importances of a lady cannot be over emphasised....
JAMB- not a DO or DIE The joint admission and matriculation board(JAMB) is one of the examination we can not just easily avoid in Nigeria. As a secondary school student aspiring to further his or her education through the tertiary institution you must write this exam and your performance will determine if you will be admitted or not into the tertiary institution. Every year, over 600,000 students apply for JAMB. Your application does not automatically qualify you for ADMISSION as there are other factors attached to the APPLICATION for the exam. We have students who wrote the exam once, pass and they were admitted instantly. We also have students who have written the exam more than once maybe twice or even more than, pass the required CUTOFF mark and yet were not admitted either into the university or polytechnic as people do say that in Nigeria it is MAN KNOW MAN, i think this is also applicable to JAMB and admission process except with divine intervention. Also, we Have stu...
